Classes
Wednesday Evenings Before the Dance

Prairie Land offers two types of Country dance classes.

#1, Pattern Dance Styles - this includes Line and Flow dances.
Patterned Style consists of a pattern of step that is learned.
The pattern is continued over and over throughout the song.
Patterned dances are broken up into Line and Flow dances.
Line dances are patterned style, danced in lines, without a partner.
Flow dances are patterned style, danced in a circle, with or without a partner.
Most Line and Flow dances are taught one week and re-taught/reviewed the next week.

#2, Lead and Follow Styles - this includes Two Step, Waltz, Swing, Triple Two, Nightclub Two
Lead and Follow styles are danced as a couple.
The gentleman leads, meaning he decides what turns will be danced, and he leads those turns.
The lady follows, meaning she is open and ready to follow his lead.
The lead is transmitted to the lady using body language which is a large part of the dance lesson.
Dance technique is also taught and practiced throughout the series of lessons.
Lead and Follow dances are taught in a 6-week series.
Each lesson builds from the ones prior to it, so it is important to attend as many classes in the session as possible.
It is possible to 'catch up' if you have to miss a class. This is done during the Fri dance or before/after the Wed class.

FREE Lesson night each Wednesday

PLDC Information

Prairie Land  'Rules of the Road'

Dance Floor Etiquette - Even a 4,000 sq ft dance floor gets full when several styles of dance are going on at the same time, so we follow Dance Floor Etiquette at Prairie Land.  Line dancers and other stationary dance styles are to be in the center of the floor leaving room for couples to dance by, flow dances are around the inner circle and lead & follow styles are around the outer circle.   There's plenty of room for everyone when we keep these guidelines in mind at all times.  Thanks for your cooperation!
Alcohol Policy  - No alcohol is permitted on Prairie Land property at any time due to insurance restrictions.  This includes the club and the parking lot.
Smoking Policy - Smoking is no longer permitted at the club in compliance with the Illinois Smoke Free Act that takes effect January 1st, 2008.
Membership Policy - Prairie Land Dance Club is a not-for-profit organization that is charted by the State of Illinois specifically as a country western dance club.  Accordingly, our purposes and activities are centered on the enjoyment and promotion of country western dance.
According to our bylaws, “club members’ common objective in belonging to the club will be directed toward social, recreational pleasure, and the advancement of the art of country western dancing and will practice proper dance floor etiquette at all times.  Members are encouraged to have a working knowledge of the basic techniques of country western dance, such as two-step, waltz, shuffle/promenade, and line dance techniques.”
Memberships are $35.00 per year per person.
Door Fees - Effective March 1st, 2005: New Door Fees for all Country Western events:
Members: $3.00   NonMembers: $5.00
