Prairie Land Dance Club is a member owned and operated
facility dedicated to Country Western dancing.
The Club was formed in the late
1980's when several couples came together to purchase the building in Illiopolis, IL.,
and created this wonderful club.
All the tasks that are completed to keep our doors open
are done by volunteer labor by our members.
Everyone is welcome at Prairie Land Dance Club at all
times!!
We are a member owned club, but we are not a member's only club!
If you find yourself in the area on a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday night,
please
stop in and enjoy the evening with us!
Check the "Events" page to see what is
going on!

Why should I dance?
First and foremost, you should dance because dancing is fun!! But, if that's not
enough of a reason for you, here are some others... dancing is good exercise, reduces
stress, helps you lose weight, and helps couples improve their relationships. According to
an article in Woman's World, "...breakthrough research reveals that the best
way to improve your health is actually one of the most enjoyable--dancing." Fast
paced dancing boosts heart rates to 50-85% of their maximum, the same as jogging or
aerobics and improves cardiovascular fitness. dancing lowers your blood pressure and
cholesterol and involves all the muscle groups of the body which is a great workout for
your heart.
The Surgeon General reports that the key to losing weight and keeping it off is 30 to 60 minutes of moderate exercise every day. A 140 pound person can burn 300-400 calories while dancing for one hour. That's enough to lose 16 pounds a year of you dance for one hour three times a week. WW writes, "Dancing together helps couples develop a strong bond... one study found regular dancing cuts your risk of anxiety and depression by 50%!"

I've got two left feet - can I really learn?
Yes! We break everything down step by step. We go over and over each group
of steps until the students are comfortable and we pace the class according to how fast
the dance is picked up. Everyone learns at a different rate, and some people do pick
things up faster than others. The only thing you need to guarantee success is a strong
desire to learn. We see students in every class that have to work a little harder than
others, but the ones that don't give up are the ones that always succeed! We have
experienced dancers and extra instructors at class to help you succeed.

What if I don't have a partner?
We can't guarantee that we can provide a partner for everyone in class, however we
usually have several "singles" signing up and we will pair these people up when
possible. We also have experienced dancers that come to help out in class. Many times,
finding partners is not a problem.

What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable clothing. Depending on the
season, it may be a little cool or warm, especially once you are dancing, so be prepared.
On your feet, wear boots if you have them. If you don't, wear leather soles or hard soled
shoes. Many people wear tennis shoes, and this is fine too... It may be harder for you to
turn with rubber or gum soles.
